Schwartz Family Community Service Award

UCP Accepting Nominations for Community Service Award

Daytona Beach, FL (Feb. 13, 2012) - United Cerebral Palsy of East Central Florida is now accepting nominations for the Schwartz Family Community Service Award. The award is named for Vance and Geraldine "Jerry" Schwartz, who opened the Work Oriented Rehabilitation Center (WORC) in 1969, now known as UCP of East Central Florida. The deadline to submit nominations is April 6, 2012. The award, which will be presented at UCP's Life Without Limits luncheon April 26, recognizes an individual who has demonstrated a commitment and dedication to assisting people with disabilities.
 
Parker Mynchenberg was the 2011 recipient. Mynchenberg was recognized for his 28 years of service to UCP, his role as the organizer for the UCP Golf Tournament fundraiser, board member and advocate for individuals with disabilities.

Calling all Gingerbread Builders

Builders Wanted for Gingerbread Magic

Daytona Beach, Fla. (Sept. 22, 2011) - Gingerbread Magic is seeking builders to enter the annual holiday gingerbread house contest and display at Volusia Mall. Gingerbread Magic, which benefits United Cerebral Palsy of East Central Florida and Stewart-Marchman-A ct, will be displayed from November  12 through December 23, 2011.

There is no fee to enter but builders must submit a building permit. As a builder you can sponsor your entry or Gingerbread Magic will find a sponsor for your project. All buildings must be pre-approved due to size limits. Completed permits must be received no later than Friday, Oct. 28.

Golf Tournament Raises $47,000

39th Annual Golf Tournament Raises $47,000 for UCP of

East Central Florida

Daytona Beach, FL (Sept. 2, 2011) --  On Saturday, August 27, United Cerebral Palsy of East Central Florida held it’s 39th annual UCP/WORC golf tournament at Halifax Plantation Golf Club. The tournament, which benefits UCP of East Central Florida , raised $47,000.  The presenting sponsor for the event was the Daytona Beach Kennel Club and Poker Room.   Halifax Plantation Golf Club, Publix Supermarkets, American Industrial Plastics, Bright House Networks, Sams Club, Brown and Brown, and Austin Outdoors were major sponsors.

Parker Mychenberg, recipient of the Schwartz Family Community Service Award from UCP and a board member, coordinated the event.

Call for Artists - Ornament Contest

UCP Calls for Artists to Submit Designs for Holiday Ornament

 

DAYTONA BEACH, FL (Sept. 15, 2011) - UCP of East Central Florida is calling for artists to submit designs for the 2012 holiday ornament. UCP has been producing the official holiday ornament for the City of Daytona Beach since 1993. Ornaments have always been designed by local artists. Artists of any age are invited to submit a design for the sculpture contest. The ornament will be professionally produced at UCP's Daytona Beach facility by individuals with disabilities.

Ornament Design Guidelines:

  • All submission must be made in Chavant Clay NSP medium hard brown.
  • Create the design with a nautical theme.
  • Ornament cannot exceed 3 inches by 2 inches when fired.
  • No undercuts or protruding parts.
  • Ornament may be flat or three dimensional.

Deadline for entries is Oct. 7, 2011. Entries must be submitted to UCP of East Central Florida, 1100 Jimmy Ann Dr., Daytona Beach. For more information, call UCP of East Central Florida, 386-274-6474.

The Arc and UCP Participants Celebrate Independance Day Together

With Voter Registration

 

Daytona Beach, FL (June 22, 2011) -- Individuals with disabilities from United Cerebral Palsy of East Central Florida and The Arc of Volusia  will gather on Friday, July 1, to celebrate the Fourth of July at an event that will include voter registration.

On Friday, July 1, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., adults served by UCP and The Arc will practice self advocacy by registering to vote during the celebration which includes an independence parade, flag ceremony, dancing and barbeque on the campuses of UCP and The Arc. The voter registration drive is being coordinated by the Self Advocacy group of Volusia County, which is comprised of individuals from UCP, The Arc, the Duvall Home and many other organizations throughout Volusia County.

For the last four years, the Self Advocacy group has worked together to advocate with a powerful collective voice.  Recent activities of this passionate group include personal meetings with lawmakers and community leaders.  In May, members initiated a rally attended by nearly 100 people and quickly sent information to legislators on the impact of cuts in medicaid waiver service. 

The Arc and UCP  Independence Day Celebration will begin Friday, July 1, at UCP 1100 Jimmy Ann Dr., Daytona Beach from 11:00 – 11:30 a.m. and continue at The Arc, 100 Jimmy Huger Circle, Daytona Beach from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, contact Micky Beauregard, 386-274-6474 ext 22.
