With Voter Registration

Daytona Beach, FL (June 22, 2011) -- Individuals with disabilities from United Cerebral Palsy of East Central Florida and The Arc of Volusia  will gather on Friday, July 1, to celebrate the Fourth of July at an event that will include voter registration.

On Friday, July 1, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., adults served by UCP and The Arc will practice self advocacy by registering to vote during the celebration which includes an independence parade, flag ceremony, dancing and barbeque on the campuses of UCP and The Arc. The voter registration drive is being coordinated by the Self Advocacy group of Volusia County, which is comprised of individuals from UCP, The Arc, the Duvall Home and many other organizations throughout Volusia County.

For the last four years, the Self Advocacy group has worked together to advocate with a powerful collective voice.  Recent activities of this passionate group include personal meetings with lawmakers and community leaders.  In May, members initiated a rally attended by nearly 100 people and quickly sent information to legislators on the impact of cuts in medicaid waiver service.
