Judge David Beck Receives Schwartz Family Community Service Award
Daytona Beach, Fla. (April 27, 2012) - UCP of East Cental Florida presented Circuit Court Judge David Beck with the Schwartz Family Community Service Award at Thursday's Life Without Limits Luncheon at the Daytona 500 Club.
Beck was honored for his service and dedication to individuals with disabilities through his work with Special Olympics for over two decades.
"To be recognized for something that has been so inspirational and rewarding to me is extremely humbling," said Beck upon receiving the award. "I believe coaching Special Olympics has been far more rewarding to me than to the athletes. I have felt inspired by the athletes so many times and I am grateful and honored to be selected for the Schwartz Family Community Service Award."
The Schwartz Family Award is named for Vance and Geraldine "Jerry" Schwartz, who opened the Work Oriented Rehabilitation Center (WORC) in 1969, now known as UCP of East Central Florida. Mr. and Mrs. Schwartz and their entire family - Dennis, Denise, Arthur and Chuck - have dedicated their lives to expanding opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
More than 200 people attended the April 26 Life Without Limits Luncheon, presented by Bright House Networks. UCP of East Central Florida has provided services to youth and adults with disabilities since 1969. UCP provides vocational training and employment, adult basic education, support services, youth employment services, supported living and residential services to over 900 individuals each year in Volusia, Flagler and surrounding counties.
